California recently passed a ban on single-use plastic bags at grocery stores, with convenience stores and pharmacies to be made compliant by 2016. Stores must offer reusable bags for sale or charge a dime for a paper bag made of recycled materials. Massachusetts, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Puerto Rico also have pending bag-ban legislation.
